Genetically Engineered Goats Make Spider Silk

Genetically Engineered Goats Make Spider Silk

What do you get when you genetically cross a goat with a silk spinning orb spider?

A goat whose milk contains the silk protein which can be extracted and used commercially.  A new animal to farm, producing a resource product that otherwise can not be farmed.

The drag line of an orb silk weaver spider is stronger than Kevlar, so its usefulness as a commercial product is obvious.

What do you think about creating a new animal species for business or other purposes?  Is there a line?  When is it crossed?
